Sturdy, good feel and great clutchApr 22, 2012
By Mike Tarrani
I play jazz so a decent hi-hat is essential. I am not demanding or finicky - requirements include a pedal that feels good and is reasonably responsive, can be adjusted to accommodate how I play, and will not fall start falling apart over time.
That this pedal is flush based is a big plus for me, and I love how easy (and quick) it is to set up and break down. You need a drum key to do that because the piece under the pedal board that attaches to the stand itself is held in place by a tension screw with a head that fits a key. It is relatively light (especially when compared to my Pearl H1000 Direct Drive Hi-hat Stand I use in my home practice space), and folds compactly for easy transportation. In addition, the chrome is very heavy and even and the overall construction of this pedal shouts quality.
What I most like is the clutch - the DW Drum Workshop SM379 Standard Hi-Hat Clutch - that comes with it. While a clutch may sound like a strange selling point, read my review of that product to discover why. Even if your requirements for loose top hats are not the same as mine, the clutch is an engineering work of art that will accommodate how you set up, regardless of your preferences.
One other nice touch is this pedal ships with two different hi-hat pull rods, one very long like those that Pearl includes with theirs, and a shorter one.
A final note: although this pedal is flush based and light, it is rock solid and is easy to position. I love mine so much I own two.

Excellent hi hat standJan 22, 2012

This stand is very light, but very well made. The stand has velcro on the bottom, which is good and bad. On the one hand, it stays in place on a rug. On the other hand, it's annoying when you need to move it. Overall a very good stand.

DW Still Makes The Best Hardware.Jan 26, 2014
I have always been a fan of DW hardware, they are the Rogers Drum Company of the 21st century. Excellent quality and design. Unless you're a ham-fisted troglodyte, this hardware will stand up to the best drummers out there.
I chose this stand for it's light weight and vintage looks. It looks good with my 50's red sparkle Gretsch kit and travels well in my hardware case. Those who are concerned about steadiness of the stand should not worry. Unless you stomp down with an elephant-like foot, this stand is plenty sturdy. Also the action is straight up-and-down, not a side-to-side swing like some drummers prefer. There are many tension adjustment available too.
My only qualm is the HH clutch, which is too big, heavy and over-engineered for my tastes. The quality of the clutch provided is outstanding. I prefer the old-school lighter clutches with softer felts. This is just a personal preference.
Bonus is the extra HH rods provided by DW, one short and one long. The short rod was actually too short for me, I use the long one. That was cool of DW to provide that option. Again I am very pleased with this purchase and am always on the look-out for new products from DW.

Wow! Very light but stable Hi Hat. Takes up minimum space and helps lower weight of kit bag. Also performs well.

Excellent. Love the extra rod given with the trap. Sturdy construction. Nice reaction on the pedal. Thought it was going to be a little unbalanced, but was actually balanced very good. Will recommend!
